Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce hosted their Capital of Texas Awards Luncheon at the downtown Hilton, recognizing seven small businesses or organizations on their accomplishments in their respective fields and in their contribution regarding community service. The program commenced with keynote speaker Mary Ellen Londrie, a highly recognized and regarded entrepreneur who established P3S Corporation after a successful career as a young female executive in the government sector.
“All of our Capital of Texas Awards nominees are being recognized for their individual successes and for dedicating their time, energy and resources to make the Austin area a better place to live,” GAHCC President Andy Martinez. “The seven award recipients chosen are true leaders in each of their respective categories.” Univision TV news anchor, Leslie Montoya presented the winners with sponsors for the following categories:
General Motors Rising Star Award winner: Dulce Bread & Book Shop founded by Teresa Carbajal Ravet after experiencing the market demand for cultural/ethnic literature and the promotion of ethnic authors. Dulce is an advocate and promoter of cultural literature, authors of colors, multicultural education and cultural experiences from around the globe.
U.S. Foodservice Food & Beverage Award winner: The Gardener’s Feast is family-owned business that provides a healthy organic alternative to traditional Mexican tamales. Originally from Mexico, Mr. and Mrs. Paredes were determined to be a success in the United States and have successfully completed the “Building Success Program” at EGBI.
Time Warner Cable Media Award winner: Community Impact Newspaper published by JG Media, Inc. has restructured the antiquated model for the community newspaper and turned it into and essential tool by providing readers useful and informative news.
United Healthcare Health Care Award winner: Live Oak Pharmacy is leader in the diverse communities they serve and believe that everything they do is customized for their patient’s health since founded in 2009 by Nathan Pope, Pham D. and Scot Maitland.
The Statesman/!Ahora Si! Retail Award winner: Lone Star Awards and Trophies’ products have played an important role in recognizing a wide range of events and occasions from employee recognition to personal or professional achievement.
Austin Energy Services Award winner: Escobar Construction, LLC is commitment to their customers to establish lasting relationships by exceeding expectations and gaining trust with each project. Wells Fargo Nonprofit Award winner: Explore Austin mission is to create opportunity for under privileged youth to develop the skills, tools, and habits needed in order to become effective leaders in their community through mentoring and outdoor adventure.
