The top 5 things to do this weekend – April 16th to 18th – for the sports fan in your life:

#5 – Central Texas Hockey Alliance Face Off at Chaparral Ice

On Sunday, April 18th, Austin’s finest police, fire, and emergency medical services on the Centex Hockey Alliance faceoff against the 0-1-0 Goats. The action starts at 6:45pm on the Blue Rink at Chaparral Ice off of Interstate 35. The Centex Hockey Alliance looks to rebound off of their opening season loss in a 3-2 heartbreaker. Admission is free and is a great way to beat the Austin heat (or rain).

#4 – The University of Texas Men’s Baseball Team Open Their Weekend Series against Texas A&M

On Friday, April 16th, the fourth-ranked college baseball team in the country, the Texas Longhorns, opens a weekend series against their rivals, the Texas A&M Aggies. The State Farm Lone Star Show Down opens in Austin at UFCU Disch-Falk Field with first pitch at 6:05pm. On the season, this is the first meeting between the Horns and the Aggies. And, a win here for the Longhorns will be their 10th in a row. This streak began with a win against another Big-12 rival, the Oklahoma Sooners. The drive for 10 in a row begins with game 1 in Austin with game 2 and 3 moving to College Station.

#3 – The Round Rock Express Open the 2010 Home Season with Fireworks

On Friday, April 16th, the Round Rock Express open their 2010 home season at the Dell Diamond.  The Express returns after a long road trip to open their season.  The Express hosts the New Orleans Zephyrs for the 3-game weekend series with first pitch on Friday night at 7:05pm. Fans are encouraged to stay after the game as fireworks, presented by Bud Light, will light the sky over the Dell Diamond. The Home Opener always attracts a large crowd so fans should arrive early for the best seats. To get tickets for Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, fans are encouraged to visit the Express at www.roundrockexpress.com.

#2 – The Austin Toros Host Game 1 in the Final Four of NBA D-League Playoffs

The Austin Toros continue their playoff march on Saturday, April 17th against the Rio Grand Valley Vipers. Tip-off is at 2pm with the first 400 fans to receive a complementary t-shirt. If you can’t make it to the Convention Center in person, you can watch the Toros live on television either on VERSUS on channel 470 (1646 HD) on Time Warner Cable, channel 640 (1640 HD) on AT&T Uverse and channel 151 on Dish Network. Win 2 of the 3 games in this series, and Austinites get to see another NBA-D League Finals at the Convention Center.  This will be the 2nd time in the past 3 years that the Toros finished their season in the Finals.

#1- The Texas Stars Open Their 2010 Playoff Season

The Texas Stars open their 2010 quest for the American Hockey League Title, The Calder Cup, as they start a best-of-seven game series against the Rockford Ice Hogs. Game 1 is Friday night, April 16th, at 7:30pm at the Cedar Park Event Center. The first 5,000 fans receive a complementary t-shirt with the Texas Stars Playoff slogan, “All for One.” Fans of the Stars are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance, as the game should be a sell out, at either www.texasstars.com or by calling a ticket representative at 512-GO-STARS. On the season, the Stars won 6 of the 8 games played against Rockford. Fans that miss Friday’s game will not have to wait long for game 2. The second game of this series plays Saturday night again at the Cedar Park Event Center. Faceoff for game 2 is at 7:05pm.
